In honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, London’s National Portrait Gallery is putting together a collection of portraits of her Majesty – although they aren’t the traditional images you might expect.
Queen Elizabeth ll has made an impact on the art world that spreads beyond the palace approved portraits. This is what curator Paul Moorhouse wants to show in the exhibition ‘The Queen: Art and Image’.
“As the country celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and reflects on her tenure, The Queen: Art and Image charts the changing role, fortunes and meaning of monarchy in the last 60 years, progressing from infatuation to disdain and, more recently, affection. ”
The exhibition will be showing in the National Portrait Gallery, London, until October 21st 2012.
