An interesting patent has been spotted, filed by Nikon, it describes the ability to easily convert existing 35mm cameras to shoot digital with the addition of an interchangeable digital back.
The concept is similar to the digital back for medium-formats. Although there are a few issues, for example the back would need to be camera specific to match up logistically, and the sensor would need protecting while switching over.
No word, however, if Nikon will actually manufacture this device, or if they just wanted the to own patent. But it will be interesting to see what price point one of these backs would fetch. Perhaps we should dust off those old 35mm just in case!
