Hawaii based photographer Kawika Singson enjoys extreme hiking and landscape shooting. To capture his images he has, as he describes, “taken many risks to capture just the right shot to share with the rest of the world”.

Last week however he took one of the most hardcore self portraits we have ever seen! To show how extreme the conditions he shoots in he hiked into a active volcano zone and took this portrait.

“I thought it would be pretty cool to take a lava pic with my shoes and tripod on fire,” he writes, “That’s real lava real flames and it was really hot! I could stand the heat only for a few seconds.”

He shoes didn’t make it through the ordeal!
